MCM X TOBIAS REHBERGER LAUNCH DURING ART BASEL HONG KONG

MCM Worldwide celebrated Art Basel Hong Kong with the reveal of an exclusive installation and limited edition collection by famed German sculptor, Tobias Rehberger. Known for creating works in indistinguishable genres, the “Dazzle concept” camouflage of neon light install covered the first and second floor of the Hong Kong flagship store. As some attendees took in the VIP preview of the art installation and limited edition MCM x Tobias Rehbergercapsule collection, others enjoyed a set from one of my favorite couples, Hannah Bronfman and Brendan Fallis.MCM-x-TR_Brendan-Fallis_Hannah-Bronfman

Along with the aforementioned, the party welcomed over 700 art and fashion connoisseurs including Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Sabrina and Mario Ho, and Victoria Magrath.

“This collection is about the history of MCM. How MCM created a strong brand identity by making patterns that only consist of logo repetitions. I played around with that idea and reinterpreted it with a redesigned logo rendered in stripes. Instead of repeating the logo as a pattern, I decided to print one big logo all over the bag,” Tobias said of th capsule.

The collection designs are inspired by camouflage military tactic approach exercised by the British navy during World War I. By painting the battleship’s exterior in repeat patterns it created an optical illusion that concealed the ship from enemies.

Tobias Rehberger limited edition is currently available online starting from $520. I hope they release other styles like the Visetos Reversible Shopper – hint, hint!
