JEREMY SCOTT REDESIGNS 2015 MTV VMA MOONMAN

No one wanted to listen to me nearly 10 years ago when I said soon everyone will be collaborating with designers as often as Ashanti sang the words,”Ooo baby!” And look at it now. From cell phone cases to cars to water bottles to now the MTV VMA Moon man, fashion designers are getting a piece of everything pie.

MTV has teamed up with fashion designer Jeremy Scott to redesign the boring old Moonman we’ve grown used to all these decades for the 2015 “MTV Video Music Awards”. As an homage to the abstract meets club kid aesthetic of Scott, the 2015 Moonman combines both the essence of the designer and MTV. Using the distinct color of the TV color bars, to the peace sign necklace, to Jeremy’s signature sneakers, the redesign of the statue is part of MTV’s long history as a fashion muse. Think back to No Doubt, Rose McGowan, Lady Marmalade, Xtina, Madonna every year, Destiny’s Child matching ensembles, Beastie Boys… the list goes on and on. To be honest, the fashion world should credit some of the music scene for their inspirations they so quickly claim as their own.

The 2015 “MTV Video Music Awards” will air LIVE on Sunday, August 30th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV as well as MTV’s global network of channels in more than 160 countries and territories. Miley Cyrus will host with a performance by The Weeknd as well as additional performers to be announced at a later date. All artists who win a 2015 “Video Music Award” will take home a special-edition Jeremy Scott Moonman, created exclusively for this year’s show.
