HungryRoot, was it a yay or nay?

So, I went vegan. And, yes, I went vegan after watching What The Health. And, no, I wasn’t one of those obnoxious people snapchatting how meat and all that comes from it, is the devil. Nor was that moron strolling up and down the aisles saying scowling at meat products. What I was, and still am, is that person who promised myself to try it out for two weeks, and see how it goes.

And, I did. And I loved it. Initially, finding food that one is able to eat seemed like the hardest part, but it wasn’t. There is a multitude of vegan-kind options that you eat everyday, but you just don’t know it. There are also a lot of “health-conscious” items you eat everyday and are far from healthy. So, when starting out, finding a subscription of very easy meals, drinks, filling nourishment, was my first task. It didn’t take much research (thanks Instagram ads!) to discover Hungry Root.

Hungry Root is a 100% vegan, gluten-free food box that puts a spin on many of the individual flavors you love. Now, I’m not going to tell you everything was delicious, because that would be a lie. BUT, much of it was. And as you figure out what you like and don’t like, you can curate your menu for your palate.

For instance, the quinoa bowls, black bean brownie, edamame corn salad, overnight oats? Yes, yes, yes, yes! They were all freaking delicious. The sweet potato fettuccini alfredo, bbq jackfruit, and butternut squash fries were meh. Would I eat them again? Probably, but they’re definitely not something I’d go out of my way to re-order.

The edamame corn salad could be devoured in minutes, but I have to limit my soy intake (something I learned my first week as a vegan) as having it more than a couple of times a week cause boil-like facial breakouts. Call me shallow, but it’s just not worth it to me.

Hungry Root comes in two options – The Starter Set which is 3 meals (2 servings per meal) plus 4 snacks at $69, or go for The Good Life which is 5 meals (2 servings per meal) plus 5 snacks at $99. The Good Life seemed like jumping head first blindfolded into a pool you don’t how deep it is, so I went for the Starter Set. I wasn’t always home to cook the meals so, those snacks came in hand for on-the-go living. Personally, I think Hungry Root should create another option called “Can I get it on the side” or “Snacks on Snacks on Snacks” just for those who prefer the snack/dessert/side more than the meals.

Of course you know I got the hookup! Click this link to receive $30 off your first box. After you try, let me know how you like it. DM me via Instagram or Twitter, or comment below. If you found a way to make those butternut squash fries crispy, let a sistah know! I basically just want to hear about you and your HR experience.
