BOOK OF THE MONTH | MAN REPELLER: SEEKING LOVE. FINDING OVERALLS.

GRAND CENTRAL spine white

The first time I ever heard of Leandra Medine aka Man Repeller, my friends were gushing about a blogger on the scene that was smart, witty and didn’t create little blurbs about nothing. She created fashion proses that made you think, engaged the audience, through thematics of a personal style blog. Basically, Medine was different. From then, Man Repeller was everywhere. Leandra hosted the Marc Jacobs Livestream last year, starred in a Rebecca Minkoff Bootcamp alongside Minkoff and Hilary Rhoda, had her name plastered on over 100 Style Caster bags given out during New York Fashion FW 13 reading “Diana & Anna & Carine & Leandra,” to hosting a charity event with EEL. So when I heard another fashion book was coming out, it was no surprise Leandra Medine played author. That’s why this Book of the Month episode is all about “Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls.”

The first time I met her was during Lana Del Rey’s H&M Launch Party, where I blabbed about my friends love for her and even asked for a photo. With a smile, she happily obliged. The same personality shines throughout her book. In the beginning it was hard for me to get in to. I don’t know why, but it was. So, I decided to skip a chapter and wound up never putting it down until I finished. It could have been that her stories seemed so honest, or that she didn’t brag about an unattainable reality, but took you down roads that most would never hear about.

One of my favorite parts was how she was “inappropriately dressed” to visit her grandmother in the hospital. And her Sex and the City moment with her Manola Blahniks. And her family’s reaction to her weight gain at camp. Moments that could have easily lost their comedic value on paper, but allowed for the reader to visualize every instance.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s not your stereotypical fashion book, but it takes you through the world of fashion in a very different way. A don’t take life too seriously sort of way as you relive aspects of Medine’s life, one outfit at a time.

And because we love you so much and think everyone should read this book, we’re giving away three (3) books to a few lucky readers! For those who don’t win, Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls. is available on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles and other book retailers.
