Backstage @ Michael Costello SS’18 | INGLOT

Makeup inspiration: Michaela Polaco for INGLOT
The inspiration for this season was really to celebrate woman and her natural essence. I’m not sure if you guys are aware, but Michael casted models of all shapes and sizes this season, going up to a size 24.

There’s a 24 on the runway?
There’s a 24, yes! We are really breaking barriers this season and we wanted to be inclusive and just celebrate women. With the makeup, we wanted something that bridged the gap between the natural girl and the glam girl – a very relatable, wearable glam, though. You’re going to look at this time, and you’re going to be like, “I would totally wear that,” as opposed to something that you’re like, “Hmm. Well, that looks nice for runway.”

No more heavy contour?
No, no heavy contour. We’re bronzing with foundation. It’s a very natural … and we’re using a lightweight foundation. Something just to cover up maybe a sunspot or two, but we want those freckles to peak through. We’re really celebrating woman. We’re accentuating the high points of her face by really highlighting. We want the skin to be really supple, like a baby. Nothing cakey. Just very healthy, very dewy.

You’re going to look at this look and you’re going to love it. There are two looks. It’s a bridal look and a couture look. The couture look is a little bit smokier, just a pinch more sexy, but still very relatable, very wearable. We used a lot of illuminating products, like the AMC pure pigment from Inglot on the eyes. We use the sparkle dust on the cheeks, and we also use the AMC liquid illuminators as the foundation base and as the base for the sparkle dust.

Are we going heavy on lashes at all?
We’re definitely beefing up the lash. Who does not love a lash? Nothing too crazy, though.

You can never have too much mascara.
We’re really beefing up the lash with mascara and with individual lashes. We’re going in with a half lash, just to, like I said, accentuate what’s already there. We don’t want to take away from what the girls already have we just want to add to what they already have.

Amazing. What are we doing for skin care?
For skin care today, Inglot just actually launched a serum. We have a day serum and we have a night serum, and we’re really just prepping the skin with that. Again, it’s super lightweight. Pumping it with lots of vitamins, just so that the makeup on top has a nice, smooth barrier.

Like, very flawless?
Very flawless. Again, very supple. That is one of the keywords that we want to keep touching upon, just because I want people to look at that skin and be like, “That’s got some bounce to it.” I don’t want them to be like, “Oo, that’s dry.”

And what we are doing for lips?
For lips, for the bridal look, we wanted something very soft, like a soft elegant pink, and then for the couture look we went with a rose’ wine stain almost.

Brows are still softer, though?
Brows are soft. We wanted to define them a little bit because obviously brows still frame the face, but we didn’t want a crazy Instagram brow like mine. We wanted something like Jen. Jen has beautiful natural brows. We wanted to just accentuate them, define where needed, fill in where needed, but not go over-the-top crazy.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I’m just very excited about the collection. I can’t wait for you guys to see it. I really hope that people feel comfortable recreating these looks, because they are very, very, very, very wearable and and they would look beautiful on everybody.
