BACKSTAGE @ CREATURES OF COMFORT: FW2016

Hair Inspiration: Joseph DiMaggio for DAVINES

“For the hair we wanted to keep it super chill. Just like the clothes, the collection has that relaxed vibe. We kind of wanted to do the same thing with the hair but have some kind of opinion about it.”

Products Used: “We have some amazing new products that we are launching this season. It’s called Your Hair Assistant. There’s four styling products and three hair care products. The whole line is really based around having the user not as much work as they normally would. The performance on the products is incredible so they kind of do everything for you. It’s really based around having clean hair, healthy hair, but cool modern hair. Normally when you wash your hair it gets all frizzy and fluffy. Right? You’re just like “Ah, I need that second or third day to just chill everything out.” This line kind of does that for you automatically.”IMGP2838-e1455227018532

“From the shampoo and conditions and then you would usually start with your blow dry primer, which is a multiple use product. If you just wanted to wash and wear your hair, you can apply this after you get out of the shower on towel dried hair and let it air dry and you already have that cool it calms things vibe, or it takes any hair quality that you have and brings it up a notch. If you were to blow dry this in and you had okay or decent hair, you’d have really good hair after that to work with or style on top of.”

How-to: We are applying that, blow drying it in. You can do it on dry or damp hair so that we have them prep with all that. Then we are going in and just taking vertical sections with the flat iron and just doing back and forth waves. Starting at the root, but leaving the end out a little bit, just so they have a nice kick. When you take vertical sections versus horizontal, you are going to have more of a natural feel. We are laying the new perfecting hair spray through that because it’s a great workable hair spray to use with hot tools, or just as a finishing itself. This is great for people who don’t like using a lot of hairspray or heavy product in general. It’s super super light weight and you can use it. It’s touchable. It’s brush-able. It doesn’t feel like you have hair spray on there and it’s great for iron work, like I said. Just layering that through and then doing the iron set, giving them a deep side part. Bring it over with a little grip right here to pull them off the face. Hand toss it from there. It’s giving a nice brushed volume with a little bit of texture.

Nail Inspiration: Park Eun Kyun for UNISTELLA told by translator
“Of course glass nails have been trending for a while now. We introduced Unistella originally at our Pop-up last year. That’s when glass nails started trending. Then this year, we brought her over for her New York Fashion Week debut. She’s inspired by the inside of an abalone, which you can see on the shelves there.”

And it changes color based on light?
Exactly, so if it’s on a black background, it becomes completely emerald green. If you wanted to do it on a pink background, it’s like shimmering baby pink. The great thing is we’re launching a line of DIY nail stickers, and then people will be able to do it at home.

On this color, what would it look like? [My nails are Seaside Party by CND Vinylux]
Probably like an iridescent blue, emerald blue.

IMGP2823-e1455227255186You’re bringing it from Korea here. It’s huge there. How long has Park been in the nail industry?
Yes, very huge. We’re so happy to be exclusively bringing Unistella here. She’s been [in the nail industry] for 15 years. She’s a top nail artist in Korea, does all the shows during Seoul Fashion Week, but first time in New York.
