VALENTINO S/S 2013 RUNWAY REPORT

Valentino-IIValentino’s Spring/Summer 2013 will go down in our fashion history books as 3 words – feminine, flattering and polished! Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccoli’s Spring 2013 collection for Valentino was inspired by a recent exhibit of photographer Roman Arturo Ghergo — who photographed wealthy, famous women and women on the street with the same elevating eye, this collection aspired to make women look glamorous no matter what the occasion. Our style team along with Jennifer Lopez, Rachel Zoe, Joe Zee, Shala Monroque, Giovanna Battaglia and even Mr. Valentino himself digested all the elegance of see-through plastic trench coats, leather dresses, layers of lace, and elegant slip dresses; tons of sheer, and then those gorgeous red-carpet worthy gowns!Valentino-III

Themes – The every woman with some odes to a more rural life. We got a bit Amish/Quaker feel through bibs but, swiftly brought back to the modern day with trench coats in leather and plastic alongside gowns.

Colors – Blush, ivory, powder, geranium, rouge noir, navy, blue, black, green, tobacco, mistletoe, jade

Key Items – Sheer lace dresses; black floral beaded gown; plastic trenches; sling-back sandals

Prints/Patterns – Sheer layer, cut outs, water snake print, layered beading and embellishments

Valentino-I

Fabrics – Leather, silk, plastic, chiffon, georgette, cotton lace, printed lace, embroidered brocade

Accessories – Clear sling-backs and mary janes, envelope clutches, cross body bags, lucite bangles, bangles with rhinestone embellishments, studded leather bags, oversize sunglasses, lucite see-through minaudières (small evening bags)

Swag – Valentino is for every woman. This season’s Valentino is a bit mature with bib details that could come off a bit matronly but, the cuts and draping are very flattering and could be pulled off by a younger woman. We are fans of Valentino and will always be a go to brand for elegance and sophistication. As we said at the beginning…. Feminine, Flattering and Polished!
