Swiss Alps Style: Since the collaborative efforts of avante-garde designer Yohji Yamomoto and Adidas commenced in 2003, brand/designer collaborations have increased more than 10 fold. This collection, like Y-3’s collections of years past, has presented a simple, rugged, classic line that trumps the last. This year is reminiscent of Swiss Alps flair of the past.

Trend: Shearling vests, cuffed jodhpur-esque slacks, and harem pants have been popular in Europe for nearly a decade before transplanting it’s trend in America. And as much as it’s tiring to see, Yamomoto has reinvented the trend with edge.

Key Pieces: Multi-patterned, hooded cable knit sweaters, quilted, pleated skirts, shearling lined coats and hourglass shaped jackets exquisitely designed to layer without creating bulk. Each piece can be mixed to showcase a new fashion statement without looking as to be trying too hard. But let’s not ignore the added bonus of staying winter warm with heavy wool and soft shearling, yet remaining polished.

Sass: Y-3’s A/W 2012 Collection truly represents the season. Its Swiss Alps practical pieces fashioned with Middle Eastern accents represent the divine diversity of Yamomoto and Adidas’s partnership. Its message of “The Story is in the Past” is emotive of current life.  History, like fashion is a story of the past not of what’s to come.
