CEO Keyshia Ka’oir launched KA’OIR Cosmetics in 2011and since has created a strong following of fans with her ideology of beauty and originality. With the slogan “I am Beautiful…Beautiful is KA’OIR,” it’s no wonder the brand stands for the “strength to be bold, be yourself, fight for your dreams and what you believe in. It’s not just a brand, it’s a lifestyle.” Ka’oir’s collection features an array of bold lipsticks, eye catching nail lacquer, vivid eye shadows and their latest collection Glitzsticks, infused with long-lasting pigment properties fit for all ethnicities. This season, KA’OIR Cosmetics teams up with TV Personality Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi to create a bold pink lipstick notably named “Snookilicious”.
Style Cartel – Your line is different from all the other lines out there now. What inspired you to start your own cosmetic line, specifically one like KA’OIR?
Keyshia Ka’oir – I was getting ready to go out one night and I wanted to wear blue lipstick but couldn’t find it anywhere. I knew there had to be other edgy women out there thinking the same thing. I figured there was no cosmetic line out there with the wild bold colors, so I decided KA’OIR would be the first.
SC – Your looks reminds me a little of the old female rappers like Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown…What artists, if any, do you look to as style icons or is it more of an original style?
KK – My style is definitely original. The only artist out there that reminds me of myself is Rihanna. Not sure if it’s because we’re both from the islands.
SC – Which lipstick color do you recommend for women who want to start wearing more daring colors, but don’t want to jump right into the blues and yellows?
KK – I think our dark purple which is called “Rude Girl” is still bold but not as daring as the blues & yellow.
SC – Does the line have other releases in the works, or do you want to perfect the collection you have now?
KK – The collection I have now has already been perfected! Lol. We just launched our brand new collection called Glitzsticks. You should check it out, it’s amazing.
SC – Any celebrity collaborations due to come out in the future?
KK – Definitely! We’ve had Trina endorse the line and now we have Nicole “Snooki”. Not sure who will be next!
