MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK AFRICA

Johannesburg – Fashion Capital

It is hard to believe that in just a few years South Africa has gone from struggles between the races to a country of same-sex marriages, economic boom and even a burgeoning fashion industry.

Johannesburg has become Ground Zero for fashion with editors, buyers, and international designers longing to showcase their designs at the newly christened Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa. MBFWAfrica as many will soon know it as, isn’t a new idea but, the brainchild of Africa Fashion International (AFI) – a premier fashion events and promotions company on the African continent whose mission is to take African fashion to the world – that has owned and been producing the shows for several years but under their own namesake.

We are thrilled to report that we safely arrived via South African Airways (Thanks South African Tourism) and are pleased to post the schedule of designers that we’ll be seeing while here. We are joined on this journey by friends of the site and fellow editors – Julee Wilson of Huffington Post, Marielle Bobo of Ebony, Nequi Galotti of Channel 5 News (C5N) Argentina and Michael Roberts of Vanity Fair.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks (MBFW) all around the world are widely known as the pinnacle of fashion within their hosted city, featured places include New York, Australia (Sydney), Berlin, and Miami. We are thrilled to see the designers listed, catch some great South African street style and maybe do some fun articles on what to see, do, and eat within this diverse and culturally rich city!
