EMANUEL UNGARO IS BACK WITH FAUSTO PUGLISI

Fausto Puglisi

Emanuel Ungaro is back and we are incredibly excited to see this failing French fashion house being restored to its glory. A year Fausto-Puglisiafter it was announced that Giles Deacon was stepping down from his short-lived role as creative director, the French fashion house is set to be revived. Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi will take creative control whilst Aeffe, which also controls Alberta Ferretti and Moschino, will hold the license for the global production and distribution of the brand’s clothing and accessories.

The house has experienced instability since founder Ungaro sold the label to entrepreneur Asim Abdullah in 2005. Vincent Darré, Estrella Archs, Peter Dundas, Esteban Cortezar and Giles Deacon have all held the position of creative director since the brand changed ownership – although none of them stayed at the label for more than three seasons – not forgetting the disastrous leadership of actress Lindsay Lohan as Artistic Director in 2009; we still shudder when we see pasties.

“Emanuel Ungaro is a brand that has left a significant mark and still has a lot to say,” said Aeffe chairman Massimo Ferretti. “Puglisi is a young talent with an international visibility, but with strong roots in our Latin world, and who will be able to turn into a new and contemporary line.” Puglisi’s aesthetic takes cues from his obsession with the Roman Empire. “For me, Rome means power, sex, decadence, delirium, skirts, pleats, peplums, embroidery,” he continued. “And these words always inspire my work.”

Fausto Puglisi will show his first collection for Ungaro at the Autumn/Winter 2013 season of shows next March…. We have our fingers crossed to have good seats to this show!
